Uses:

HDT can be used to assemble monolayers on the surface of a substrate. When the substrate is exposed to a solution of HDT, the molecule spontaneously self-assembles and binds with the exposed atoms on the surface, creating a single monolayer of molecules. The HDT molecules form a dense, uniform monolayer, which provides a protective coating against physical and chemical damage.

HDT can also be used to covalently bond to the substrate surface. This requires a bit of extra work, as the HDT molecules must first be linked to the surface atoms in a certain manner. This process is called cross-linking and involves the use of a special cross-linking reagent that binds the HDT molecules to the substrate surface.
