Chemical Properties:
GREY TO BROWNISH FINE CRYSTALLINE POWDER
Uses:
N,N’-Diphenylbenzidine has countless uses in proteomics research, as it is an important chemical used in the development and synthesis of proteins. It is also used in drug discovery to create new medications and increase existing drugs’ efficiency. This makes it a valuable asset in the medical field.
In addition to its use in proteomics research and drug discovery, N,N’-Diphenylbenzidine is also used in synthesizing polymers, such as polyurethanes and polyethylene terephthalate. It also produces paints, dyes, adhesives, and polyimides.
Synthesis
Synthesis of N,N’-Diphenylbenzidine is achieved by combining 4,4′-dibromodiphenyl (3.12 g, 10 mmol), aniline (2.3 mL, 25 mmol), t-BuONa (2.9 g, 30 mmol), Pd2(dba)3 (183 mg, 0.2 mmol), and P(t-Bu)3 (20 mg, 0.1 mmol) in toluene (30 mL). Then, the mixture was stirred at 90°C for 3 hrs. After cooling to room temperature, the reaction was extracted with distilled water and diethyl ether three times. The organic layer was filtered, the precipitates were washed with acetone and diethyl ether, and the resulting intermediate compound C was dried in a vacuum, yielding 0.3 g (90% yield).
